Qualifying Urban Areas for Census 2000
This is
a list of urbanized area that qualified based on the results of Census 2000. The Bureau of the Census determined these
urbanized
areas
using the urban area criteria published in the Federal Register
on
March 15, 2002.
·
An
urbanized area consists of densely settled territory that
contains
50,000 or more people. Densely settled territory includes an urban
core with a density of at least 1,500 persons per square mile. Adjacent territory to this core must have a
density of at least 500 persons per square mile. Note that these definitions
are not the same as a metropolitan area that are based on county geographic
boundaries (towns in New England).

An
urban cluster consists of densely settled territory that
contains
at least 2,500 people, but fewer than 50,000 people.
